Great ideas are born on the wings of butterflies. In honor of the amazing yearly Monarch migration, Mark and I hatched a plan to don some homemade orange wings and walk the bridge at the border into Acuna. Crosbys at noon was always a rendezvous site to reconcile lost friends from the night before and would be a perfect place to culminate our celebration of the Monarch and toast with sweet Mescal nectar. The first year they would call us mad. Two men with butterfly wings walking the mile. Bomberos Locos! Maybe with a film crew and a little hype, it could rise to 6 or more next October then double by the next. In 5 years there would be hundreds of fiery wings flapping past grinning border patrol agents and laying their wings outside Crosbys at noon.
What a way to start a movement, honor a beautiful determined creature and sip a few of the best Margaritas known to Texas! Wish we had done it.
